Oh, that's right, Soupy did stop by one of our Science Fiction conventions in the Detroit area. He did not know about it, as it was also a hotel for celebs to hide when appearing in the area. Some of the fen did find him in their elevator ride one evening and got to say hello and such. Had I found him, I would have tried to get him to the filk room, to show him what some of his TV kids were up to.
The story in the link below has been expanded since last night with AP coverage.

| I was fortunate to actually meet him twice, in Ocean City at their annual Doo Dah parade. |

| He joined WNBC-AM as a disc jockey in 1985, a stint best remembered because Sales filled the hours between shock jocks Don Imus and Howard Stern. |

Comedian Soupy Sales Dies
Southfield (WWJ) -- Detroit comedian Soupy Sales died Thursday evening at a hospice in New York, longtime friend and former manager Dave Usher said. Sales was 83.
Sales, who was born Milton Supman in North Carolina, moved to Detroit in the early 50's. He was a longtime fixture on WXYZ-TV where he starred in "Soupy's On" and "Lunch with Soupy Sales."
In 2005, Sales was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Sales was one of the first real stars to take hold on Detroit television. He spent nearly 50 years on television and may be Detroit's most recognizable, original stars.
WWJ Producer and author Tim Kiska wrote in his book "A Newscast for the Masses" that Sales "popularized the comedic device of being hit in the face with a pie."
Kiska says Soupy did a lot for Detroit and will be missed.
