I could have sworn that I had posted the lyrics and had noted this, but someone else posted the lyrics now without mention of the original version. It should have been noted in the lyrics or the song facts. I have noted it in the facts...................P

--- BorisBadenov
I actually didn't know there were two versions until Whimsical Will pointed it out to me. I won his Demented Sound Byte contest one week and as my prize asked for a copy of The Existential Blues. He asked me whether I wanted the version with the "Impossible Dream" bits or without. I'd have to go through last year's emails to get the full 411, but apparently, yes, the copyright holders to "Man Of La Mancha" objected to the inclusion of four bars from the song and told Stankus to take them out.

--- yankofan
Excellant show, Captain! Hey,one question concerning the Existential Blues song: Why does the version on my Dr. D CD cut out all the "impossible dream" references? Was it/is it a legality issue? If you or anyone has the "lowdown" on why there are multiple versions of the song, I would love to impress relatives with how smart I am at the next family BBQ.

Thanks,

yankofan

Thanks for the "Mad Music Nuggets of Trivia" I sure am impressed with the info that comes forth from the members of this site-not just this nugget but EVERY nugget.

(Steering back from my unauthorized topic tangent)

Again, this was a wonderful show!

It's got the Impossible Dream bits in it. Will asked me if it was OK to have him rip a track from an LP because that was the only version in the library that had the extra bits, even though it would't sound as "good" as a digital track. I dunno, maybe my ears are shot but it sounds just fine to me.

--- Tim P. Ryan
I hope you got the extra bits, instead of a track from the DrD Anniversary CDs.

There's also a Bear Lake in southeastern Idaho, though I've never heard it referred to as Big Bear Lake. My wife's family used to go there all the time when she lived in the area.

Big Bear Lake is up the road from me in Crestline, ca so I was rather surprised when listening to the June 18th Podcast of the Mad Music Hour that I had moved to Spring, TX. I hope I like it there.

Inventory (I just thought of this):

There's a song by Dave Phillips they play on Music with Moskowitz every so often called "Godzilla Ate Tukwila." It's basically this dumb little ditty about Godzilla snacking down, stoomping on or otherwise interacting with various towns in the state of Washington (piddling on Spokane). According to Wayne's database Doctor D has played it twice, most recently three years ago.

I'm not requesting it because I have a feeling it would be pretty hard to track down, although I might be able to find an MP3 of it from one of Moskowitz' shows.
